Printing guide 01

How to print photos at actual size.

A PDF can have accurate dimensions and still print too small. A common reason is Fit to page: the viewer reduces the page to fit the area your printer can reach. To print a 10 cm frame as 10 cm, the file and print settings both need to agree.

Set the paper before the scaling

  1. Download the PDF and open it in a viewer that lets you choose print scaling.
  2. Select A4 or Letter to match the file and the paper loaded in your printer.
  3. Choose 100% or Actual size. Turn off Fit, Shrink and automatic borderless enlargement.
  4. Print one page and measure the result with a physical ruler.

Use a 10 cm ruler test

Open the printable ruler test and measure between 0 and 10. The distance should be 100 mm. If it differs, check the viewer scaling, paper size and printer driver. This is a manual check; the site does not calibrate your printer automatically. Avoid changing the image size to compensate until you know why the scale is wrong.

Leave room for printer margins

Most home printers cannot print to every edge of a sheet. The default 10 mm margin reduces the risk of clipping, but is not a guarantee for every printer. Check your printer specifications and increase the margin if needed. For a 10 × 15 cm frame, measure the frame itself rather than the white area around it.

What if a browser print dialog looks different?

Print options vary by operating system and PDF viewer. A setting labeled “Default” may not mean 100%. Look for a scale field or an Actual size option. If it is unavailable, use a PDF viewer with explicit scaling controls and run the ruler test before printing important photos.
